Picture this: you’re a freshman beginning your first year of school away from home. You’re excited and a little bit overwhelmed about living on campus. You want to seize every opportunity you can to make your college experience the greatest it can be—and there are a lot of opportunities to choose from. You’ve heard that there are many different clubs on campus that you can get involved with, but you don’t how to find them or choose between them. Where to even begin?
Enter the Clubs Fair.
Every year, SGA hosts a Clubs Fair for Liberty students. It’s a chunk of time where students can search for the right club for them, and vice versa. Any official campus club can set up a table, and all students are welcome to attend.
This year, the Clubs Fair took place on September 14th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Of the more than 140 clubs operating under SGA, about 40-45 clubs chose to have tables at the event. The tables lined the Montview lawn, beckoning students to come engage with colorful signs, trendy décor, and the tiny treats guaranteed to entice the average college student to stop for a little while.
SGA Director of Clubs Grace Hutchinson loves the Clubs Fair. “It helps a lot of students to be able to find people within their shared interest, even if it’s not their major,” she said.
Clubs participating in the fair got the opportunity to attract new students to their groups and expand their base. One such group is the French Club, founded in the fall of 2021 by then-sophomore Madi Barrieau. According to Madi, more than 40 people signed up to receive emails and several of those attended the club's first meetings. "It was a great way to connect people to a club personally," she said.
But what if you missed the Clubs Fair?
Fear not! Even though the Clubs Fair for this fall is over, you can still join clubs. An official list of campus clubs is available on SGA’s website. To get the contact information for any of these clubs, students may email sgaclubs@liberty.edu to be put in contact with club officials.
There will also be a second Clubs Fair in the spring semester, especially helpful for any news clubs founded in the fall semester. Students may also submit a form to start their own club.
Though the Clubs Fair may be over, the clubs are still there, ready and waiting for students to get plugged in.
