Students celebrated autumn in front of the Montview Student Union with food, fun, and games this past Tuesday.

Liberty University students enjoyed pumpkin painting, line dancing, and eating fall treats at SGA and Sodexo’s “Jump Into Fall” event on October 11.

Students were offered a true taste of fall through pumpkin-themed activities and decorations and crisp autumn air. Sodexo set up tables offering free helpings of beef and pumpkin chili, corn muffins, pumpkin mousse, and rich #hotchocolate. Music blasting from speakers on the steps of the Montview Student Union set a tone of camaraderie and community for the event.

A History of Partnership

This is not the first time Liberty’s Student Government Association has partnered with Sodexo to put on an event. In addition to providing food for SGA’s home football game tailgates, Sodexo collaborates with SGA to host one event each semester with free food and activities for students. SGA Director of Events Katherine Alford says that the idea behind this event was to give students an event to look forward to coming back from Fall Break.

“When we’re coming back from Fall Break, I know there’s not a lot of events for students to do right before it gets too cool, so I thought it would be fun to do something just to celebrate the fall weather,” said Alford.

Alford also indicated that more SGA events are upcoming this semester, including more tailgates. Plans are already in the works for next semester’s Sodexo and SGA event, but they have not yet announced what they are going to do.

“I thought the event today was really well put together and part of that was because the food was so good!”

Food, Fun, and Games

Though the autumn-themed food was a star of the event, Jump Into Fall offered many other enticements to students. Activities included:

Students paint pumpkins at a table
  • Pumpkin Painting – SGA provided several smaller-size pumpkins and a variety of acrylic paints for students to craft unique fall décor

  • Line Dancing – beginning at 7:00 p.m., students could follow the leaders and learn some new moves to show off to their friends

  • Spikeball & Volleyball – several students set up their own games of Spikeball and volleyball that kept the energy high and the community engaged

Students who attended the event had a variety of different reasons for going. Some used it as a break from studying and others as a chance to celebrate fall with friends. The main reasoning for most students, though, was the free food from Sodexo. Junior Madi Barrieau said the highlight of the event for her was the food.

“I thought the event today was really well put together and part of that was because the food was so good!” said Barrieau.
